Snowed In

I'm listening to the morning news on the radio, it’s snowing heavily outside and it has just been announced that the weather is only going to get worse and by the minute. It has been advised for all residents to stay home and keep warm.

‘Well, this is not bad’ I think to myself, ‘it means I get to spend time with my woman’. The thought of her brings a smile to my face. I walk into our bedroom and glance at the bed. There she’s sprawled with the sheets barely covering her naked body, still sleeping and snoring lightly. Her dark curly hair a tangled mess on top her head, uncovered from the satin bonnet she always insists on wearing every night but never wakes up with it on. Her face is turned towards me. She looks so young and innocent in her sleep, looking at her, you’d think she’s not a second older than 23. She’d be 38 in 2 weeks. I continue smiling and walk into the bathroom.

I run a hot bath and pour some portion of her favorite bubble bath and bath salt in it. Oh she’s going to love what I have in store for her today. The moment it had been announced that everyone should stay in, an idea had flashed in my head immediately on what to do with my baby. As the water fill the tub to a considerably good level, I turn of the flow and leave the bathroom, allowing the water to cool to a satisfactory point before I dunk her in it. ‘This is going to be so much fun’ I think as a mischievous grin splash across my face and I begin to whistle and walk out of the bedroom , down the stairs heading to the kitchen.

I make breakfast of celery, kale omelet with 5 strips of light pan fried bacon, just the way she likes them. I set them on a plate and pop in the microwave to keep warm while I juice out 2 glasses of pineapple and watermelon. I store those in the refrigerator and head back up stairs. The water should be cool enough now.

I slid into bed with her, matching her form with my body. The feel of her bare skin next to mine never gets old. My reaction to her is instant and I feel myself go fully hard. I run my hand down her right arm as she’s lying on her left side while I nuzzle her neck to get her to wake. She makes a mewling sound and writhes slightly to my touch, pushing her buttocks smack into my erection. I smile and graze her earlobe with my teeth, whispering into her ears for her to wake up. She groans and turns to face me, putting her leg over mine and hugging me. Her breasts plastered to my chest with hard poking nipples. Her face is so close to mine that our lips are barely touching. I doubt we will be able to make it to the bath. I’m in heaven.

*************************************************************************

‘mmmmmmmmmmmmm’ that’s the sound I make as I stretch out my body across my husbands with my hands over his neck. Gradually coming awake, I nuzzle his neck and breathe in his smell. He smells so good, always. I hug him tightly as I still try to stretch out my muscles to relax them. I can feel his bulge strain against my thighs. I smile wolfishly. ‘Hmmmmm baby, what are you doing?’ I whisper as my eyes opens and stare into his. ‘I am only trying to wake you my love.’ He responds, planting a kiss to my lips and running his hands through my hair. I lean into him and deepen our kiss.

As I feel the sexual hunger rise between us, I gently pull out of his arms and break the kiss. ‘As much as I would like to stay here and plaaay with you baby, we need to get ready for work.’ At my mention of work, all sexual fog seems to instantly clear and I curse ‘Shit! I’m going to be so late. Why did you let me sleep in like this and aren’t you late for work?’ I try to scramble out of bed but he chuckles and pulls me back into his arms. ‘There’s no work today baby, all roads are closed cos it’s snowing like crazy out there’ he plants a kiss on my forehead.

‘oh! Well I have to email my boss about this then.’ I smile and wiggle out of his embrace, trying to get out of the bed. Swiftly, he leaves the bed, pulls me up and carries me in his arms. ‘What are you doing?’ I laughingly asked with suspicion laced in my tone. ‘You’d see.’ There’s a mischievous gleam in his eyes and his grin is too wide for comfort. He strides across the bedroom, into the bathroom, and then the scent wafts into my nostrils. It dawns on me what he is about to do. ‘Oh no, you don’t. Don’t do it.’ I excitedly squirm in his arms. ‘Doing it.’ and before I can get out another word, he dumps me in the tubs and roars in laughter.

I screech and curse but I’m not angry. Clearing the suds from my face, I look up at him adoringly and splash some suds in his face. We are both laughing now and splashing water all over the floor.

‘Get in here, you big goof’ My arms are outstretched to receive him. ‘Try and stop me.’ There is a sexual glint in his eyes as he sheds of his shorts and joins me in the tub. We hug and kiss and I wet his hair and face with suddy water. We are giggling like two teenagers and bouncing around in the tub. We play like this for a few minutes and then stop. I lean further into the water, watching him watch me. He’s smiling at me with all his love reflecting in his eyes. God, I love this man so much. I smile back at him.

He picks up one of my foot and starts massaging, gently circling the ball of my foot with his thumb. I close my eyes and sigh in appreciation. He does the same with the other foot and continues for a few minutes. I open my eyes and lean into him for a kiss. I kiss him softly but can feel the passion emanating from both of us. We do not indulge it but share a gentle kiss with my hands caressing the sides of his face. I sit back in the tub and scoop water and pour over his body. We sit like this pouring water over each other not saying a word.

As the water starts to feel too cool, I break the silence.

‘We should wash off honey.’ ‘Ok.’ and he gets up and pulls me to him. I pull out the tub plug for the water to drain and turn on the shower.

Song 4: Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)

My heart beat so fast when I read the message that came in from a certain somebody. It read 'I was wondering maybe, I could make you my baby. We could do the unthinkable cos if you ask me I'm ready'. Never in all my life till that moment had I ever considered eloping until I read this message {ok...that is a fat lie....what, with all these cinderella stories on tv....why wouldn't I dream of going away with Ian Somerhalder, ehn??..*hiss*}. My heart beat so fast and I smiled like Garfield does after he's been well fed and lazing about. Could he mean this and how are we going to do it? All kinds of thoughts were racing through my mind. Oh, we could go to the cayman islands and have a discreet marriage..Oh but my mum would have a heart attack..and papa would be so grieved. Oh I cant do this..but I can, I should do it. Never done anything crazy in my entire life..this would be fun but really really crazy..Mum and dad would be disappointed and blah blah blah...

Initially, it did not occur to me to ask the 'mofo' what he meant by all of that..I was too excited to care. I could picture myself in my Vera Wang appliquéd lace (Victorian) gown...oo lalala..and my groom standing tall beside the priest with a huge smile on his face {just like mine above..hehehehe} with all the love, joy and pride in the world reflected in his eyes as he watches me walk down the aisle to him...{kai...M&B did me something sha...smh}..I daydreamed for good 5 mins before common sense took over. Immediately I replied the message with 'What do you mean by that?' and he replied saying it was a song he was listening to that made him think of me and then he realized he wanted it too. My heart swelled some more. Then he asked if we could do it. My reply? "E be like say you want make I kill my parents ba? No we can’t. As sweet and romantic as it seems, my Love, I no fit". He laughed and said of course he knew we couldn't.

Anyway, all that na gist but it did get me thinking. Could I really elope with a guy and get married? Would it be a sin if I did it? I must tell you, I had to google 'bible references concerning eloping' o. Oh Yes I did..my life is tuned like that, If I no sure whether e go be sin I de commit, I de google am sharp sharp..{if you like laff, that one concern you}. In as much as people did not encourage eloping, like they said 'the union is to be shared by family', there was nothing wrong with the act and there was no reference in the bible about it being wrong {if you think or know otherwise, pls share biko}. I sat and researched this issue and also researched the song. The part of the song that really got me thinking was "Time is only wasting so why wait for eventually?" Really, what is the point of waiting for what you know is meant to be? Life is short, we should live it like it was the last. Why wait another moment for something that might eventually be? Why not do it all now, while we still have the chance? This is all me thinking o...{that is why I like ndi ocha, when they want something, they go for it. No dulling or time wasting or over analyzing things. Maybe that’s why they have too many divorces..onye mma(who knows)?}. hmmmmm, I wish my life was that adventurous and I could just be that spontaneous. Well, I still got time to make changes abi?

Ok, so I listened to the song and fell in love with it. Alicia Keyes is a very deep musician and I completely love her and her music. So follow me enjoy this song!

Moment of honesty
Someone's gotta take the lead tonight
Who's it gonna be?
I'm gonna sit right here
And tell you all that comes to me
If you have something to say
You should say it right now
(You should say it right now)

You give me a feeling that I never felt before
And I deserve it, I think I deserve it
(I deserve it, I think it deserve it..Let it go)
It's becoming something that's impossible to ignore
And I can't take it
(I can't take it)

I was wondering maybe
Could I make you my baby
If we do the unthinkable would it make us look crazy
If you ask me I'm ready
(Echo: I'm ready, I'm ready)
If you ask me I'm ready
(Echo: I'm ready, I'm ready)

Verse 2:
I know you once said to me
"This is exactly how it should feel when it's meant to be"
Time is only wasting so why wait for eventually?
If we gon' do something 'bout it
We should do it right now
(We should do it right now)

Baby, uh

You give me a feeling that I never felt before
And I deserve it, I know I deserve it
(I deserve it, I know I deserve it. Let it go)
Its becoming something that's impossible to ignore
It's what we make it

I was wondering maybe
Could I make you my baby
If we do the unthinkable would it make us look crazy
Or would it be so beautiful either way I'm sayin'
If you ask me I'm ready
(Echo: I'm ready I'm ready)
If you ask me I'm ready
(Echo: I'm ready)

Yeah, sing...

Why give up before we try
Feel the lows before the highs
Clip our wings before we fly away
I can't say I came prepared
I'm suspended in the air
Won't you come be in the sky with me

I was wondering maybe
Could I make you my baby
If we do the unthinkable would it make us look crazy
Or would it be so beautiful either way I'm sayin'
If you ask me I'm ready

The west Vs. The West

For lack of an original title for this post, I came up with the above title 'The west Vs The West'. I know most of you are not as smart as me so I'm going to give a very brief explanation. The west vs. The west is simply, where I am from (the west of Africa) vs. where I live (originally referred to as the west). For all those dolos that still don’t get, it is 9ja vs. Yankee. If you still don’t understand, then please I'd advice you go back to kindergarten and start all over 'ponquem'

The reason for this post is a result of something that happened while in class one day which I have outlined in Scenario 1 below. It got me thinking about how different the educational system is between both places. I'm not even going to bother going into the differences or start comparing the two systems in depth because there really is no point {maybe in a later post, I just might}. Below are a couple of scenes that went through my mind while my instructor (back home they are called lecturer) was doing his bestest to make sure I understand the topic he was going on about.

Scenario 1- Entering a class while the class is on...

Yankee Scenario

Student : hey {to instructor}
Instructor: hey howsit going???
Student :: eeeehhh it's going ok {while swaggering away with cap faced backwards}
meanwhile students are eating cooked food/snacks and drinking coffee/soda

ehn??? U de craze?? for Ulamak's class or Ifos's class? Dem no born you well. Even to chop groundnut sef, you have to hide and do it. You have to even chew gum sef with caution. First of all, you wouldn’t dare sneak in {notice I said sneak not walk} to Ulamak's class while he is already inside and teaching. Only the bold and fearless can even try to attempt it.

Naija scenario

Student tries to sneek in with Ulamaks back turned to the board

Ulamak: a you...come hia! {just as student makes it to the nearest seat and he turns away from the board}
Student : Sorry sir! {note that student is apologizing for an offense he has not been accused of yet o}
Ulamak: so you think you can jus enter my class as you like ehn?
Student : no sir, Sorry sir..
Ulamak: come on will you get out of hia..your mates that are standing outside, do they have two heads?
Student : sorry sir {as he slickers out of the class and other students are hiding and snickering}
Ulamak: come on get out dia. stupid boy {only a boy will attempt this}

Scenario 2- Student doesn’t understand assignment given.

Yankee Scenario

Student : Hey Carl {to instructor}, concerning the lab for last week which is due in this week, I tried loading the server on my mac but can’t seem to get it running. Also the assignment just doesn’t make any sense especially question 2. I think there is something wrong with that question.
Instructor: Really? {Baffled} first of all let’s try to get the server running on your mac.
He goes ahead and helps the student install the server and in the event that he cant get it to work
Instructor: Do you know what James, I'll have a look at this with my mac when i get home, then i'll send you the instructions or links on how to get it fixed ok.
Student : Sure.
Instructor: Now about the question, what don’t you understand?
Student : well it just don’t make any sense to me..
Instructor: ok, well this is what you are expected to do {instructor goes ahead and explains the whole assignment up to the point of almost giving him the answers}.

Naija Scenerio

Truth be told, there is no scenario. Lecturer gives you an assignment you don’t understand, first of all, only someone signing their carry over certificate would go and tell the lecturer that they don’t understand the question or it doesn’t make sense. If you don’t understand, the solution is simple. Google the question {which you'll definitely find there verbatim}. Copy and paste the solution, no need to edit, lecturer won’t know the difference.

Scenario 3 - After finals and receiving your grades.

Yankee Scenerio

Izzie: What? B? why? how could that have happened? {calls up classmate}
Izzie: Hey have you seen your grades for dotdotdot?
random student: Yea, I had an A.
Izzie: Really? {thinking....What the heck? I taught this guy this course}. Ok, I'll talk to you later {rudely hangs up and angrily emails Instructor}

Email:

Hello Professor,
I just saw my grade on blackboard and it doesn’t seem right. I turned in all my assignments and projects but it says I missed a couple of assignments which isn't true. I've been assigned a B grade cos of this and would really appreciate if you have this reviewed ASAP. I can turn in the missing assignments again and forward the initial submission as proof.
Thanks,
A very disgruntled student.

Reply:

Dear disgruntled student, I'm sorry there is a misunderstanding with your grades. I've informed my teaching assistant to investigate this and upgrade scores if necessary. Let me know if there are still any issues.
Best of luck,
A Truly concerned and caring Professor

Izzie{starts enquiring about the TA and get the TA's number. Calls TA}: hey TA, I'm calling about my grades as professor mentioned in his email to us. Has it been looked into?
Nervous TA: Oh yea, you seem to be missing some assignments.
Very angry Izzie: Well, I'm very certain I turned in all my assignments, maybe it got overlooked or something.
NTA: ok Izzie, can you just resend those assignment to me?
Calm Izzie: sure

Izzie doesn’t relent (on both professor and TA) till her grades have been upgraded to A.

Naija Scenerio

After days of burning candles and sleepless nights of 'Ofrima' studies. Grades are out.
Izzie: Tata have you seen your Ulamak's result?
Tata: My dear I had a D oh.. Thank God.
Izzie: Me, I had a D also o. Ah, I really thank God it was not an F. {End of story, unless you want another 2 years added to your years of undergraduate studies}.

THE END.

Song 3: One day at a time

I am sitting in class and trying to make heads of what my professor is saying and all I can think of is this song as its been on my mind for a very long time. I have gotten to a point in my life where I feel so impatient and want life to move as fast as it can. Cant wait to be done with my masters program, impatient to start a real paying job/start a full time career {as they say it} and other things I am not at liberty to mention here :P

I wake up everyday and feel the monotony of my life drop on me and then sadness just seems like it wants to grop and swallow me {they say life here in 'Gods own country is like that} but just before it feels like that bad 'd' word is about to take over, this song creeps into my mind and I remember that I have Somebody that loves me more than I can fathom, wants the best for me and has a whole lot of good stuff planned for me. Only if I can be patient enough for His 'little' surprises to be made manifest. I remember that living this life is not about me but living for His glory and according to His purpose for bringing me into this world.

Then I go on facebook and the news I read from people statutes {facebook is my only source of keeping in touch with the world...ehn, I no get tv and I no like to read newspaper..sue me} makes wonder about life. People killing people, bombing places without consideration of the innocent lives that are involved. Power play and all sorts of crazy stuff, and I think all this hustle, what is the point? Who knows where one would be when these crazies are happening. But I remember I have a God who has promised to protect me and keep me safe and I say to myself "Babe, just take it 'one day at a time'".

I hope the lyrics as well as the song touches you as it has me. Enjoy.

I'm only human, I'm just a woman.
Help me believe in what I could be
And all that I am.
Show me the stairway, I have to climb.
Lord for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.

Chorus:
One day at a time sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.

Do you remember, when you walked among men?
Well Jesus you know if you're looking below
It's worse now, than then.
Cheating and stealing, violence and crime
So for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.

Church musings (this English sef)

I know a lot of you would be wondering why I would be musing while in church {even though I know a lot of you reading this are very guilty of this sin}. Shouldn’t she be paying attention to the words of the preacher, listening closely to every word of God that is being relayed to the congregation? Well that is exactly what I was doing o on Sunday when this errant chinko child started to make some kind of stupid sounds {seemed like he was crying but it sounded more like a goat bleating}. The mother was trying to pacify him and get him to be quiet, this pikin no gree..at this point I was completely distracted and wondering why the mother had not smacked him in the mouth to shut him up. But we all know how this oyibo people are with their sheedren, instead of smacking the child to be quiet, they will be begging the child to be quiet. Some will even bribe the pikin with icecream sef. Imagine the nonsense. I remember while growing up, all my mum had to do was give me or my siblings the eye, and that alone sef will put the fear of ‘ekwensu’ in us. This child just kept making this sound and distracting a lot of other people till the mum had to back him out of the church.

Now what got me really upset was that this pikin is not even a child as I thought. I thought this pikin would be like a yr or 2 years old if he is too old. To my surprise, this child don reach to de grow beer-beer sef. Maybe he should be like 5 or 6 years old. Aaah…I was really vexed. Imagine this papa lolo disturbing the whole congregation in church ehn…If they were any closer to me, I would have given him a big ‘okpo’ on the head. That’s how I started imagining myself as the Chinko mother o and the conversation I would be having with my child outside the church.

{conversation in Cantonese}
Chinko mum: Ching lu, why you make so much trouble in church? You don’t want to listen to priest?
Errant child: mum, I want go home. Church boring. Me want play my wii.
Chinko mum: is that why you disrespect me in church, not keep quiet when I ask you to?
Errant child: what disrespect?

At this point, I go blank as I don’t know how to explain what disrespect is without repeating the word respect. So I think and then say

Chinko mum: well son, disrespect mean when you no show regard or respect for someone. It mean, you rude to somebody.
Errant child: what mean rude?
Chinko mum (now baffled): it mean, you not polite and not show courtesy.
Errant child: what mean cut-esy?
Chinko mum(at this point confused and exasperated): child you ask too many questions ok, lets go back inside and you be quiet ok.
Errant Child: but mum, why say things if you can not explain it?
Chinko mum(really upset now): look here, don’t let me cross with you? Infact you are grounded, you go to room now!
Errant child: but mum, we are in parking place in church, cant be grounded…hehehe..

At this point, mum is seeing fire and smoke is puffing out of her ears.

Chinko mum now turned warri mum: this pikin just shut up your mouth or I go just land you one hot slap now. Ogene biko o, which kain shild be this one ehn?

I grab him by the ear, twisting it and warning him not to make any ‘kpim’ when we enter the church. Just as we entered, the reverend father says ‘and so we ask God for his wisdom to live every day, AMEN.’ The congregation responds amen and all rise. At this point, I get jolted out of my reverie just as people were standing and realize that I had spent the whole time for homily, musing over a child wey no be my own..SMH….

Then I decided to investigate what could be taking up all the space on this thing. My discovery put me to shame I no go lie. As a masters student, you’d think I’ll be more serious with my studies…chai…God help me…. See the list below in terms of percentage.

Party Dress Wahala..

How can I be invited to a cocktail party and the guys are all in jeans and sneakers ehn?! Look at me all dressed up like am about to see the queen and the girls are dressed in spandex like dresses. This is oh so wrong!!!

Ok, let me gist you people. So I was invited to this 'cocktail' party and instructions strictly stated that everyone should be properly dressed for the party. Girls should be in sexy cocktail dresses and the guys should be in suits. Seeing as I am an almost reformed tomboy (all you could ever find in my wardrobe was jeans and tees and being that I am almost reformed to dressing and acting like a girl) the closest I had to a dress is a shirt dress that I still wore with my jeans ;D. So I had to call re-enforcement to rescue me. Shopping, shopping, shopping...my favorite thing to do. You may ask...since this one is being reformed, what's then is she shopping for??..well, I shop for shoes.

This for me, is a compulsive obsession and not necessarily a hobby (like someone recently comically ranted on NS about shopping being a hobby..I loved that article btw). I love shoes, my wardrobe currently is full of them. I go online to my favorite shoe store @DSW and I have to at least have one shoe in by store bag before logging off. I collect shoes like others collect stamps...anyway that's gist for another day.
So, I called up a friend to rescue me from this uncalled for predicament and she suggested we go shopping for dresses. So since I loved shopping, even though not for dresses, I jumped at the idea and we headed to the store. Oh my goodness, the kind of fun I had that day cannot be described. I tried on dresses after dresses, pretending I was on the run way, and it was awesome. Apparently, I've found a new love after shoes..dresses. I couldn't believe how fabulous I looked in these clothes. I used to think I didn’t have the behind to pull off dresses but mehn, you just had to check me out that day. All I kept saying was..’Mehn…see babe!!!’. Short, long dresses; Full bodied, skimpy dresses. I looked awesome and I was loving the experience. At the end of it all, I had tried on over 10 dresses and then it was time to make a decision. When you’ve budgeted a 100bucks for dress and then you have at least 5 dresses you absolutely couldn’t let go of, each one costing nothing less than 50 bucks…..una see my predicament now? Serious wahala o...I couldn't decide which ones to let go off. For someone who didn’t like dresses, this was absolutely absurd but I was in pain….sighs.. Finally, I sadly made a decision and picked the two I thought were the best with the help of my friend. I left the store with a huge grin on my face, got home, laid the dresses on the bed and then matched them up with awesome shoes…and thought to myself…’ah! I go show them for this party.’ I felt like Cinderella going to her first ball.

Just imagine my anger and disappointment when I got here and only about three or four of us where appropriately dressed in the thirty or so people in the room. Guys in baggy jeans and baggy Tee shirts or shirts with sneakers. Girls wearing tops they called dress. Wait o, na only me see the instruction for the invitation? I am sure I look like one of those cartoon characters that when angry, their face turns red and you can see the heat puffing out of their head….Tchuewww, wey I for just wear my jeans and top come the party. Complete waste of baff.
So I am sitting down, watching all these people and then it hits me. ‘Girl, you look fantastically fabulous!’. With drink in hand and a huge smile on my face, I peruse more faces and from the look in many eyes, I can tell they think so too ;-).
